Ensuring healthy lives and communities and promoting well-being for all is the theme of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Sessions within this technical track focus on a broad range of topics, including air and water quality, biotechnology and bioprocessing tools, biomedical devices, waste management, and environmental monitoring and stewardship.

The development and characterization of new materials, devices, methodologies and systems is a core driving force for innovation. Industrial Process Analysis and Development

Industrial innovation requires the integration of emerging technology with comprehensive approaches to characterize the impact of process modifications, intensification, control strategies and new system designs. This technical track focuses on fundamental and applied research aimed at improving industrial processing systems. Topics include advanced process control, process intensification, process simulation, and process optimization, scaling and design.

Energy and Natural Resources

Given the realities of climate change and social licence to practice, industry and academia continue to explore opportunities to minimize the impact of natural resource extraction and processing through efficiency gains, novel production methods, effluent sequestration and treatment, and clean energy production and storage. Access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all is critical for the future. Energy is central to nearly every major global challenge. This technical track explores traditional and emerging technologies in resource extraction, energy production, oil and gas processing, affordable and clean energy, energy storage, and the energy/carbon economy.

Modern Chemical Engineering Education

The role of chemical engineers in industry and society is constantly evolving, and education and training methods must keep pace with these changes. Evidence-based pedagogical practices are crucial to the development of essential skills like critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, technical synthesis and communication, and sustainable development. This technical track focuses on how instructors and institutions are changing their curricula by introducing new technologies or pedagogical practices to enhance student learning. Other topics include innovative approaches for introducing engineering design and experiential learning into the curriculum, methods to integrate equity, diversity and inclusivity elements into the curriculum and extraprofessional activities, the use of outcome-based assessments for curricular renewal initiatives within a Canadian accreditation framework, and the promotion of student self-awareness and autonomy by teaching metacognition.
